The Masterclass with Florian Poirot, UK Pastry Champion takes place at our kitchen in Malton Enterprise Park.
This is a Hands on / Demo Class where we will all together bake a large and small macaron cakes.
You will learn how to make the macaron dough & our delicious Passion Fruit cream, but also how to pipe, build and decorate your celebration cake.
At the end of the class, you will go home with recipes and 2 individual cakes.

Beat the January blues and join Lady Cara on a stunning winter walk through the grounds of Birdsall House. On route we will pass the 12th century monastic ruins, the Capability Brown inspired lake and the 300 year old lime tree avenue. Birdsall House has been in the Willoughby family since 1540 and the grounds and estate remain a private property. Please join us on this special occasion to walk and discover the incredible history of Birdsall estate. After the walk we invite you to warm up from the crisp wintery air with a complimentary hot drink and cake in The Old Kitchens.

Simon Green: Balmorality Queen Victoria and Scotland
A Scottish theme for the talk closest to Burns Night. The talk will look at Queen Victoria's introduction to Scotland. A love of mountain scenery, baronial castles, the majestic stag and acres and acres of tartan. The wild forbidding desolate Highlands were transformed into the majestic, romantic, picturesque landscape we all love today. How her love of Scotland grew and was expressed in the building of Balmoral Castle and the creation of its extensive estates. Simon will explain why Balmoral became and remains a much loved Royal retreat.
The talk is run by the Friends of Malton Museum and the location is The Library, the West Wing, Malton School.

Our Future Landscapes talks explore how we see, interact with and manage our unique local landscapes, with a presentation by a guest speaker followed by an open Q&A. Topic: The Forest of Flowers project in Huby, York has created 100 acres of new woodland, wildflower meadows and wetland, providing a sanctuary for wildlife.
Description: Alwyn Craven, founder of the project, will explain how the habitat was created from farmland in 2015, and then showcase the incredible variety of wildlife which has moved in since, using photography and footage taken on-site. He will also discuss how the area is managed now (from pig grazing to coppicing), plus how anyone can support wildlife in their own green space, no matter the scale.

Love Your Leftovers is brand new to The Cooks Place! Working in partnership with Hermione Crowe- textiles, Gilly and Hermione will bring love to your unwanted items. We all have these things lying around our home, maybe there’s a feeling of guilt in throwing away items that can be repurposed and reloved.
Wool, fabric, garden twine, stale bread, food in the fridge, we can recycle, reuse, repurpose and reduce waste. We may be in touch to ask you to bring a worn out garment, a basket of veg, a piece of string, a croissant, anything to fit with the theme of the evening.
Two courses and a drink are included in the price, as well as a crafty session.
