As you pull up in Malton’s Market Place (2 hours free parking, by the way) you’ll be met by the pleasing feel that life has been going on like this in town for centuries. Butchers making sausages, bakers baking bread, greengrocers & fishmongers too - it’s the way that all town’s once were, and Malton still is. One of the newest places to visit is Cosy Cottage Soap, a brilliant handmade ethical skincare brand which makes all of its delectable products in town. Lavender, burnt orange and patchouli soaps, creams, shampoo and much more.

And there are top boutiques too, like Interiors at Nine to Eleven with its massive homewares selection over 2 floors, there’s so much to view. Kemps General Store is also unmissable, Home to unusual and beautiful gifts and their new independent book shop is heaven. Pizza On The Square by SALT has pride of place in the old town hall. A mix of the contemporary and the modern with a warm welcome. The Deli Of Malton is the place for top cheeses, wines, light lunches and other speciality products. As always The Hidden Monkey tearoom is ever popular.

Elsewhere, Paleys Green Grocer is a stalwart of Malton with beautiful fresh fruit & veg, duck eggs and herbs from Mrs. Paley’s garden! Derek Fox Butcher & Game Dealer is worth a stop with a superb meat selection and a huge amount of fresh game in season. You can often see grouse, partridge & pheasants hung outside and if that doesn’t take your fancy his bacon sarnies surely will.
