MALTON MUSEUM: LECTURE PROGRAMME 2025-2026

Thursday 21st January 2026

Simon Green: Balmorality Queen Victoria and Scotland

A Scottish theme for the talk closest to Burns Night. The talk will look at Queen Victoria's introduction to Scotland. A love of mountain scenery, baronial castles, the majestic stag and acres and acres of tartan. The wild forbidding desolate Highlands were transformed into the majestic, romantic, picturesque landscape we all love today. How her love of Scotland grew and was expressed in the building of Balmoral Castle and the creation of its extensive estates. Simon will explain why Balmoral became and remains a much loved Royal retreat.

All the lectures are in Malton Assembly Rooms and entrance is though the Museum on Yorkersgate. They all start at 7.30p.m. and  they cost £5 per head. Booking online is through the events section of the Malton Museum website or you can pay at the door.
