FRIENDS OF MALTON MUSEUM: LECTURE PROGRAMME 2025-2026

Wednesday 21st January 2026

Simon Green: Balmorality Queen Victoria and Scotland

A Scottish theme for the talk closest to Burns Night. The talk will look at Queen Victoria's introduction to Scotland. A love of mountain scenery, baronial castles, the majestic stag and acres and acres of tartan. The wild forbidding desolate Highlands were transformed into the majestic, romantic, picturesque landscape we all love today. How her love of Scotland grew and was expressed in the building of Balmoral Castle and the creation of its extensive estates. Simon will explain why Balmoral became and remains a much loved Royal retreat.

The talk is run by the Friends of Malton Museum and the location is The Library, the West Wing, Malton School.
