Location: Courtyard Cafe at Castle Howard.
Tickets can be booked on the Castle Howard website.
Join us for a series of informal evening talks about nature and landscapes, every third Tuesday of the month in Castle Howard's Courtyard Cafe between 7pm-8pm. Our Future Landscapes talks explore how we see, interact with and manage our unique local landscapes, with a presentation by a guest speaker followed by an open Q&A. Tickets are free, but we kindly ask you to book a space in advance.
This event is wheelchair accessible.
Speaker: Lauren Barnes, University of York
Topic: Why and how is rewilding being implemented across Britain?
Description: This presentation will outline how and why rewilding is being interpreted and operationalised across Britain by different landowners and practitioners. Interest in rewilding across Britain has grown in recent years. Within academia, research has mainly focused on attempts to define rewilding and document its origins. In practice, rewilding is interpreted and implemented depending on the desires and needs of the practitioner within the spatial and ecological bounds of the project. To better understand the reality of rewilding implementation on the ground, I spoke to various different landowners and practitioners across Britain who have self identified their project as rewilding. I will present an overview of outcomes of these conversations to provide an insight into the motivations which initiated the decision to adopt a rewilding approach and the management implementations being utilised to achieve a rewilding vision.

Stamps must be designed to be secure and to show the service they are providing. More recently they have become items of propaganda and subjects for avid collectors. The talk will also illustrate how minor errors in production may lead to extraordinary changes in value to philatelists.
Our lecture venue is the Library, The West Wing Malton School, Middlecave Road, Malton YO17 7NH. For Access to the WEST Wing, enter the OUT gate of the WEST WING, Malton School. Chris Wood ‘Death in the Theatre’ at The Milton Rooms
Chris Wood “Death in Theatre” Show
Date: Thursday 19th March 2026
Time: 7.30pm
Location: The Milton Rooms
Tickets: £16.50 (£15 + £1.50 booking fee)
Britain’s theatrical wonderland has been a cornerstone of culture for centuries, delighting and thrilling audiences with an assembly of exhilarating spectacles. Beyond the trodden boards and tucked neatly behind the curtain, however, lies a catalogue of real life destruction and grisly murder that our greatest tragedians would surely be proud to have presided over. Tread the bloodied boards of Britain’s theatres and witness the deathly dramas that have played out so dramatically within them..
Death in the Theatre collects an astonishing selection of startling tragedies from Britain’s throng of theatres. There is something especially staggering when the player exits life on their adorned stage, and yet, with this by no means an infrequent occurrence, death has made many a fearful cameo appearance – stalking the stalls and grimly reaping the galleries in its macabre and relentless fashion.
Learn of outrageous tragedy such as the young man mauled to death by a lion in a Gloucester theatre, and the unfortunate victim killed in the Dumfries Theatre Royal – quite literally – by the limelight.
THIS PERFORMANCE IS NOT SUITABLE FOR UNDER-14s.

Soothing Sound Bath: Cleanse, Calm & Realign
Dates: 3rd May 2026 (other dates include 5th July and 13th September)
Location: 17 Market Place, Malton, YO17 7LX
Step into stillness, in the late spring early evening, and surrender to the deeply calming experience of this Soothing Sound Bath, lovingly held by experienced sound practitioner Julia Thompson.
Designed to gently quiet the mind and nourish the spirit, this 90-minute session offers a rare opportunity to fully switch off from the outside world and connect with the healing power of sound.
Julia will guide you through a meditative sound journey using a combination of crystal singing bowls, chimes, and grounding instruments, all chosen to support the body’s natural ability to restore and rebalance. These vibrations work at a cellular level, helping to release stored tension, regulate the nervous system, and promote emotional clarity.
Throughout the session, you’ll be invited to simply lie back and relax — letting the sounds wash over you in waves of calm. There will be gentle guidance to settle you into the space, followed by a period of quiet integration at the end, allowing you to return to the present moment feeling lighter, clearer, and more deeply connected to yourself. Whether you’re new to sound healing or returning to deepen your practice, this immersive session offers a nurturing pause for body, mind and soul.
You may wish to bring a yoga mat, blanket, and any cushions or eye masks that will help you feel comfortable and supported, however a mat, pillow and blanket will be provided. We encourage you to bring cosy layers as some may feel cooler lying in stillness for this length of time. You may also wish to bring a journal for any reflections that arise after the session, however this is optional.
Enjoy a welcome beverage and 15% off all Cosy Cottage products on the day.

Malton Museum: Walking Tour - Roman Life in Malton
Malton Museum Walking Tour: Romans in Malton
Date: Saturday 6th June 2026
Time: 11am - 12.30pm
Meet at Roman Fort, Orchard Fields, just off Old Malton Road
Archaeological work on Malton’s Roman Fort suggests that it was one of very few in the country that was probably operated in varying strength throughout most of the Roman occupation. Roman soldiers were efficient builders and military forts were regularly altered, abandoned and re-instated as necessity arose. Partly built over later by the Normans and cut through even later by a railway track, what is left of the fort site is an unevenly shaped grass field with banks and ditches, but with many hidden stories to discover. Our tour explains the layout of the fort, and the people who lived there for a time. Come and learn about the life of a typical Roman soldier.
The tour takes about 90 minutes. We use audio headsets to ensure everyone can hear the guides when the town is busy. The maximum size of a group is 20.
Cost £10.00 per person, includes an information pack.
Please note that the fort is an uneven area of roughly mown grass which can also be damp in wet weather, so please wear suitable footwear.
For more information about our tours, including accessibility statement, please visit https://www.maltonmuseum.co.uk/town-tours/

Cosy Cottage: Soothing Sound Bath: Cleanse, Calm & Realign
Soothing Sound Bath: Cleanse, Calm & Realign
Dates: 5th July 2026 (other dates include 3rd May and 13th September)

Malton Museum Roman Festival V
Malton Roman Festival 2026
Date: Sunday July 19th 2026
Time 10am to 4pm
Tickets: Adults £10 | Kids 5-15 years £5 | Kids under 5yrs free | Family Tickets £20
Malton Roman Festival V – July 19 2026
To celebrate the fifth year of the Malton Roman Festival the team at Malton Museum have added an additional V to the name. This is because V in Roman numerals (or rather letters) is their equivalent of 5.
Our Roman festival is taking place on the first Sunday of the summer holidays on 19th July between 10:00am and 16:00, so if you haven’t booked your summer holiday yet push it back for a week or two and come along to Orchard Field in Malton for a day of family fun.
Orchard Field is the site of the Roman fort and civilian site called Delgovicia which was established circa AD71. The site was known as Derventio, but academic research has identified the Roman Site at Stamford Bridge as the site of Derventio. “There is something special about running a Roman festival on the site of the old Roman Fort”, stated festival organiser Louise Lewis.
Malton Roman Festival V will have several re-enactor groups which include calvary unit Equistry and legionary units Legio VI Victrix, Magister Militum and Longthorpe Legion as well as the Brigantes of Wincobank Hill representing the British population of that time. As well as marching and weaponry demonstrations the legions will be recruiting for the Kids Roman Army and their march around the site.
The festival will also feature a selection of talks and question/answer sessions by historians, authors of fiction and non-fiction books which in previous years has included Terry Deary, Simon J Turney and Dr Simon Elliott. The museum will keep us updated in the run up to the actual date so please follow their social media pages and the website www.maltonmuseum.com
The festival has plenty to do for children and plenty of food and drink will be on hand to keep everyone happy. There will also be stalls from local archaeological groups and the Museum, sharing archaeological finds with the public.
The festival is run entirely by volunteers and if you want to volunteer for the preparation phase or on the day please contact the museum on enquiries.maltonmuseum@gmail.com.
If you or your business would like to donate to or sponsor some element of our Roman Festival, please also get in touch at the address above, we'd love to talk to you about it.
And finally the price will be held at £10 for adults with children under 5 free remaining good value for a family day out. Children between 5 and 15 cost £5 per head but family tickets are available at £20.
See you there or “Te ibi videbo” as the Romans would say.
Buy advanced discounted tickets from the Malton Museum Website along with many more details about the day. www.maltonmuseum.co.uk

Event Overview
The first Hilarity Bites of 2026!
Nick Doody has been performing comedy since the 1990s when, as a student, he got off to a pretty good start by supporting the legendary Bill Hicks, at Bill’s request. A little later, Nick was a finalist in Channel 4’s So You Think You’re Funny? competition. Since then he has performed all over the world:
Nick has appeared on various radio and TV shows and is also much in demand as a writer. He has penned jokes for Joan Rivers, Lenny Henry, Dame Edna Everage and an uncomfortable number of Mock the Week regulars. He was also the creator and head writer of Bigipedia, a critically acclaimed Radio 4 show that broadcast in 2009 and 2011.
El Purnell is a unique whirlwind of a crowd-pleasing comedy act. His energy and gags per minute are off the scale, delivering many belly laughs and so much fun for the audience. He has a unique and clever spin delivering his set in Spanish with a sprinkle of English. Audiences love the interaction, jokes and actual realisation they can understand him without speaking his mother tongue.
Highlights for Ecuador’s No 1 comedian include several runs at the Edinburgh festival, TV shows for both BBC and Sky TV and international gigs in Ecuador, Ireland, Germany and Thailand.
Will Duggan started performing comedy in 2009. Since then he has established himself as a dynamic and exciting new act and a quick and witty MC. In the short time he has been performing comedy Will has been in the final of many prestigious competitions including Beat the Frog World Series 2011. He was nominated for Best MC at the 2022 Nottingham Comedy Festival Awards.
A natural either performing a set or hosting an evening. Will puts the audience at ease with his charming, friendly style.
