Dirty Ruby are a five-piece contemporary but eclectic sharp-edged blues rock band hailing from the East Midlands. Recently compared to 1970s rock bands Stone the Crows and Vinegar Joe, with their eclectic, energetic style of blues rock, paired with Hammond organ, beautiful bluesy guitar, tight rhythm section and soulful, well delivered lead vocals, Dirty Ruby are starting to carve themselves a following on the UK Blues circuit.
With a five-track EP recorded live and mixed, edited and mastered entirely by the bands bass player Steve Taylor, and their debut single just released, this band of independent artists are now working on completing their debut album.

Cosy Cottage: Soothing Sound Bath: Cleanse, Calm & Realign
Soothing Sound Bath: Cleanse, Calm & Realign
Dates: 3rd May 2026 (other dates include 5th July and 13th September)
Location: 17 Market Place, Malton, YO17 7LX
Step into stillness, in the late spring early evening, and surrender to the deeply calming experience of this Soothing Sound Bath, lovingly held by experienced sound practitioner Julia Thompson.
Designed to gently quiet the mind and nourish the spirit, this 90-minute session offers a rare opportunity to fully switch off from the outside world and connect with the healing power of sound.
Julia will guide you through a meditative sound journey using a combination of crystal singing bowls, chimes, and grounding instruments, all chosen to support the body’s natural ability to restore and rebalance. These vibrations work at a cellular level, helping to release stored tension, regulate the nervous system, and promote emotional clarity.
Throughout the session, you’ll be invited to simply lie back and relax — letting the sounds wash over you in waves of calm. There will be gentle guidance to settle you into the space, followed by a period of quiet integration at the end, allowing you to return to the present moment feeling lighter, clearer, and more deeply connected to yourself. Whether you’re new to sound healing or returning to deepen your practice, this immersive session offers a nurturing pause for body, mind and soul.
You may wish to bring a yoga mat, blanket, and any cushions or eye masks that will help you feel comfortable and supported, however a mat, pillow and blanket will be provided. We encourage you to bring cosy layers as some may feel cooler lying in stillness for this length of time. You may also wish to bring a journal for any reflections that arise after the session, however this is optional.
Enjoy a welcome beverage and 15% off all Cosy Cottage products on the day.

An Evening with Jack The Ripper - The Milton Rooms
Whitechapel. 1888. Between August and November a series of women are brutally murdered. The identity of the killer remains a mystery. Until now..?
It’s the greatest unsolved case in criminal history. One that continues to confuse and confound. Generating argument, debate and a host of different theories.
Who was he?
What was his motive?
And how did he get away with it?
Was he a doctor, a sailor, a soldier or some kind of religious zealot intent on ridding the streets of vice?
‘An Evening with Jack the Ripper’ will delve into the sordid realms of Victorian London in an attempt to finally unmask the man, with the blackest of hearts, who preyed upon the most vulnerable members of society. Award-winning producer and broadcaster Steve Morgan has captivated thousands of people on his celebrated ‘Ripper walks’ through the east-end of London, where he retraces the steps of the notorious killer through the streets he stalked.
Now he has adapted the story for the stage and invites you to spend an evening in the company of Jack the Ripper and live to tell the tale.

Malton Museum Lecture: Alex Harvey - "Yorkshire In The 'Dark Ages': What happened after the Romans left?"
Alex Harvey the first summer lecture at Malton Museum
“Yorkshire In The 'Dark Ages': What happened after the Romans left?”
About the author: Malton Museum are delighted to host noted author Alex Harvey. Alex is a postgraduate history student at the University of York, where he spent 8 years, with a focus on Scandinavian York. He has written for numerous journals and has presented research for York Archaeological Trust, Lancaster Historical Postgraduate Conference, and Leeds International Medieval Congress. Through a desire to disseminate complex academic theory and developments into an engaging and entertaining format, Alex is always writing scripts for talks, manuscripts for books, and outlines for future projects.
Abstract: The gap between the end of Roman Britain and the dawn of 'Anglo-Saxon' England is often characterised as mysterious, shadowy, and populated by legendary figures like King Arthur. Within Yorkshire, all evidence suggests these two centuries were a period of both change and continuity. Grand Roman architecture remained in the landscape at sites like York, Malton, and Catterick, repurposed or abandoned entirely, just as wholly new dynasties and kingdoms were formed out of the ruins of the old Empire. This story is not a clean, linear narrative, but rather a collection of beginnings: Yorkshire alone is home to the post-Roman realms of Northumbria, Elmet, Loidis, Catraeth, Craven, and many more. It is through archaeology, like the many finds from Malton Museum, as well as place names, that we can best reveal these hidden histories.
Details:
The talk will commence at 7pm on Thursday 17th May in the Malton Assembly Rooms (entry through the Museum at 06:30pm. Tea and coffee will be available. Cost is £10 per person and you can buy a ticket through the Malton Museum website. https://www.maltonmuseum.co.uk/online-booking/

Alchemy Live! - Dire Straits tribute band
Alchemy Live were formed in 2020 by lifelong Dire Straits fans Martin Ledger and Neil Scott. Having dreamed of starting a Dire Straits tribute band for many years, but neither having the time to do it due to both being busy full-time musicians, the COVID pandemic and resultant lockdowns gave them that time in abundance.
Such attention to detail is carried on throughout the band’s tribute show, with every nuance of Mark Knopfler’s playing technique faithfully followed.
“He has these little percussive flourishes in his playing, which are really difficult to recreate but without them it’s just not Knopfler,” said Martin.

Malton Museum Walking Tour: Romans in Malton
Date: Saturday 6th June 2026
Time: 11am - 12.30pm
Meet at Roman Fort, Orchard Fields, just off Old Malton Road
Archaeological work on Malton’s Roman Fort suggests that it was one of very few in the country that was probably operated in varying strength throughout most of the Roman occupation. Roman soldiers were efficient builders and military forts were regularly altered, abandoned and re-instated as necessity arose. Partly built over later by the Normans and cut through even later by a railway track, what is left of the fort site is an unevenly shaped grass field with banks and ditches, but with many hidden stories to discover. Our tour explains the layout of the fort, and the people who lived there for a time. Come and learn about the life of a typical Roman soldier.
The tour takes about 90 minutes. We use audio headsets to ensure everyone can hear the guides when the town is busy. The maximum size of a group is 20.
Cost £10.00 per person, includes an information pack.
Please note that the fort is an uneven area of roughly mown grass which can also be damp in wet weather, so please wear suitable footwear.

Cosy Cottage: Soothing Sound Bath: Cleanse, Calm & Realign
Soothing Sound Bath: Cleanse, Calm & Realign
Dates: 5th July 2026 (other dates include 3rd May and 13th September)

Malton Museum Roman Festival V
Malton Roman Festival 2026
Date: Sunday July 19th 2026
Time 10am to 4pm
Tickets: Adults £10 | Kids 5-15 years £5 | Kids under 5yrs free | Family Tickets £20
Malton Roman Festival V – July 19 2026
To celebrate the fifth year of the Malton Roman Festival the team at Malton Museum have added an additional V to the name. This is because V in Roman numerals (or rather letters) is their equivalent of 5.
Our Roman festival is taking place on the first Sunday of the summer holidays on 19th July between 10:00am and 16:00, so if you haven’t booked your summer holiday yet push it back for a week or two and come along to Orchard Field in Malton for a day of family fun.
Orchard Field is the site of the Roman fort and civilian site called Delgovicia which was established circa AD71. The site was known as Derventio, but academic research has identified the Roman Site at Stamford Bridge as the site of Derventio. “There is something special about running a Roman festival on the site of the old Roman Fort”, stated festival organiser Louise Lewis.
Malton Roman Festival V will have several re-enactor groups which include calvary unit Equistry and legionary units Legio VI Victrix, Magister Militum and Longthorpe Legion as well as the Brigantes of Wincobank Hill representing the British population of that time. As well as marching and weaponry demonstrations the legions will be recruiting for the Kids Roman Army and their march around the site.
The festival will also feature a selection of talks and question/answer sessions by historians, authors of fiction and non-fiction books which in previous years has included Terry Deary, Simon J Turney and Dr Simon Elliott. The museum will keep us updated in the run up to the actual date so please follow their social media pages and the website www.maltonmuseum.com
The festival has plenty to do for children and plenty of food and drink will be on hand to keep everyone happy. There will also be stalls from local archaeological groups and the Museum, sharing archaeological finds with the public.
The festival is run entirely by volunteers and if you want to volunteer for the preparation phase or on the day please contact the museum on enquiries.maltonmuseum@gmail.com.
If you or your business would like to donate to or sponsor some element of our Roman Festival, please also get in touch at the address above, we'd love to talk to you about it.
And finally the price will be held at £10 for adults with children under 5 free remaining good value for a family day out. Children between 5 and 15 cost £5 per head but family tickets are available at £20.
See you there or “Te ibi videbo” as the Romans would say.
Buy advanced discounted tickets from the Malton Museum Website along with many more details about the day. www.maltonmuseum.co.uk

Malton Museum Town Tour: Horses in Malton
Malton Museum Walking Tour: Horses in Malton
Date: Saturday 5th September 2026
Time: 11am - 12.30pm
Meet at Malton Museum
Malton Museum offers an interesting variety of public guided walking tours around the town’s historic centre.
This tour around the centre of Malton explores the relationship of both Malton and Norton with the horse, from having the largest horse markets in the country from medieval times onwards to the many 18th century coaching inns and its fame as one of the most successful horse racing towns in the land in the mid-19th century when the description ‘more stables than beds’ was not far wrong. The tour covers key buildings and spaces in the town which are part of the story.
The tour takes about 90 minutes. The maximum size of a group is 20.
Cost £10.00 per person, includes an information pack.

Cosy Cottage: Soothing Sound Bath: Cleanse, Calm & Realign
Soothing Sound Bath: Cleanse, Calm & Realign
Dates: 13th September 2026 (other dates include 3rd May and 5th July)
