New Art Exhibition “Grounded” begins today at The Gallery, Malton
Exhibition Dates: 31st January-28th February 2026
‘Grounded’ represents the artist’s ongoing exploration of change and impermanence in the human and natural world, expressing how the process of making art grounds us by connecting us to ourselves and to the world around us. Across different media, slow processes are used to build up surfaces that reflect the passage of time through layers of pigment and marks. Fragmented, organic lines are created through intuitive mark making and suggest the movement of thoughts and emotions or pathways through a landscape, both physical and emotional.
In textile and ceramic pieces, organic materials such as earth and botanical inks bring the pieces closer to the natural environment and act as a reminder of our connection to the ground. Cloth is dyed with natural colour while found elements such as pine needles and stones have been incorporated into the clay of the ceramic pieces, leaving marks and imperfections where they are lost during the firing process.
