Two-star Michelin chef adds to highlights at the ‘Glastonbury of Food’

Malton Food Lovers Festival, Saturday 24, Sunday 25 and Monday 26 May 2025

A chef with two Michelin-stars under his belt, as well as being the winner of the Great British Menu 2007, is set to wow the crowds at the ‘Glastonbury of Food’, when he joins a host of other top chefs at the Malton Food Lovers Festival 2025.  Sat Bains will host a free demonstration at 11am on Saturday 24 May 2025.

Sat is Chef Patron of world-renowned, two Michelin-starred Restaurant Sat Bains with Rooms in Nottingham. Celebrating its 25th Anniversary this year, the restaurant embodies the highly technical, cutting-edge and progressive culinary ethos for which Sat is known.

As well as winning Great British Menu, visitors to the festival will recognise Sat from numerous other TV programmes. Sat has appeared as a chef mentor on Masterchef: The Professionals and Masterchef Australia.  He’s also a regular on live cookery shows including Saturday Kitchen, Saturday Morning with James Martin and Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch.

After his demonstration, he will be signing copies of his latest book, Eat to Your Heart’s Content, outside Kemps.

“We are thrilled to add Sat to our line-up, which includes The Great British Bake Off’s Freya Cox and Rowan Claughton, Masterchef UK semi-finalist Yemi Adelekan, Great British Menu finalist Callum Leslie, as well as our local top chef talent from Castle Howard, The Black Swan and Tykes at Sandburn Hall, all kindly sharing their expertise with an audience of food fans,” comments Mark Brayshaw of Visit Malton CIC, which organises the annual staple in the food-lovers’ calendar.

“Best of all, our visitors are not paying for admission and event tickets to see these brilliant demonstrations.  Malton Food Lovers Festival is one of the largest free food festivals in the North – possibly the country – with over 100 stalls, our live demo stage hosted by Gilly Robinson from The Cook’s Place, music, entertainment and trails complementing the brilliant artisan food, drink and crafting businesses we have all year-round in Malton.”

This year’s festival also coincides with Malton Grill & Smoke Festival, featuring The Whole Hog Barbecue Competition on 24 & 25 May, taking place at The Talbot.  With the smell of flame-grilled meat joining the aromas of world-cuisine from the street-food market, visitors are advised to arrive early and hungry, with a promise of hours of entertainment and full bellies by the time they leave!

Parking in Malton town centre during the Food Lovers Festival is extremely limited, visitors arriving by car are encouraged to use the Park & Ride service, signposted from the A64, with a £7.50 parking fee that includes free shuttle buses to and from the festival site. You could opt to ditch the car and avoid the A64 entirely as Malton also has fantastic public transport links with the award winning Coastliner bus service and the TPExpress Liverpool to Scarborough train line via York. The rail and bus exchange is just an 8 minute walk from the festival.
