Make it a Malton Christmas – the ultimate place for Christmas preparation!

Its local producers have been providing Yorkshire-folk with inspiration for years, and now Malton is firing up its festive season with crafts, food and experiences to make the perfect Christmas

“Malton is a small town with a very big heart, and that’s something you particularly see in the run-up to Christmas.  There’s a real community feel in the town centre, and a wonderful buzz as people realise that you don’t need to go into a big city to have a fantastic festive experience, whether you are looking for unusual gifts or special touches to make hosting friends and family even more memorable,” comments a spokesperson for Visit Malton.

When it comes to gift ideas, Malton’s reputation as a town of makers and creators comes to the fore, offering a real personal touch and unique items that will be a pleasure to unwrap.  Local artist Christine Hughes brings joy through whimsical animal-inspired art and sculpture. Her studio, The Gallery, is a treasure trove of smiles, featuring work by fellow Yorkshire creatives.  Meanwhile, with a focus on sustainability, the elves at Ryedale Remakes turn discarded glass, fabric, and found objects into stunning stained glass, soft toys, jewellery, and homeware.

Malton is also the perfect place for finding delicious, locally-produced delights, both for your own Christmas table and for gifting.  From unusual cheeses to complete your Christmas dinner from The Deli of Malton – their black charcoal cheddar makes a delicious talking point whilst helping digestion! - and show-stopping macaron towers from Florian Poirot, to warming winter gins, made on site at the Rare Bird Distillery or a impeccable range of brandies and whiskeys from McMillans, everything is in easy walking distance making Christmas shopping much more pleasurable.

If you fancy a tipple whilst shopping, jump about the TransPennine Express trains and leave the car at home!

Malton makes visitors and locals alike welcome without it costing a fortune before you’ve even started.  The Coastliner Bus is currently offering journeys for £3, whether you are travelling from Leeds, York or Whitby.  For those who prefer to car to transport numerous bags of Christmas shopping, Malton offers two hours’ free parking, leaving more cash in the purse for gifts!

“We’ve also got a host of fun and unusual events in the run-up to Christmas, too, helping build up the spirit for the big day!  The Cook’s Place and Cosy Cottage are teaming up for Candles & Cakes for Sankta Lucia on 14 December, and a remarkable event where you forge your own cutlery before using it to dine takes place on 13 December, with expert blacksmith Piers Edsall.”
