The Shambles Suggestions

The Shambles is certainly one of Malton’s quirkiest streets that’s full of unique independent shops.

This historic row of shops is proud and passionate about arts and crafts, sourcing as much of their materials and goods from the local area, which is certainly true of art duo Gale and Temple and also metal fabricators, Environmental Art.

Originally trained as a jeweller and as a weaver, Emma Gale and Sallie Temple have diversified into producing a range of wonderful gifts including making beeswax candles with wax supplied by their own hive!

Creating handmade treasures in their very own forge, Environmental Art pride themselves in making one-of-a-kind gifts from upcycled materials.

The Woodlark is another wonderful example of one of Malton’s crafts people, sourcing wood from locally

felled trees to make beautiful chopping boards and homewares.

Just across the way you’ll find Gwyneth at Magpie Antiques. As a stalwart of The Shambles business community for 30 years, this antiques emporium is a treasure trove of curiosities that’s just waiting to be explored.

Popular with locals and visitors alike, traditional Malton shop, The Country Cobbler, is piled high from floor to ceiling with smart gentlemen’s shoes and boots - you’ll be spoilt for choice. As well as selling shoes, Ian is also highly skilled in repairing your trusty pair too.

Fascinating Rhythms will put a spring in your step whether you’re into swing, rock, classic or pop, you’re sure to find some great tunes here, many of which are on vinyl.

Looking for 1940’s vintage treasures from fashion to floristry equipment and more? Why not pop into The Shambles Vintage & Hair Salon at the top of The Shambles and take a look. Christine has been creating fabulous nostalgic 40’s hairstyles for over four decades in her salon.
